Hi all,
The last couple of days have brought an influx of migrants to Pratt. The cool, rainy and cloudy conditions have made for pleasant birding, with new arrivals being Indigo Buntings, Mississippi Kites and a few warblers dropping in. Red-headed Woodpeckers, Red-eyed Vireos and Least Flycatchers made themselves heard this morning and I had a nice flock of Orange-crowned Warblers, with two Palm Warblers in the group at Pratt Co. Lake at lunch time today. Jeff Calhoun was in town with students from Dodge City on a field trip and had a singing White-eyed Vireo at the lake. I didn't re-find it, but the Palms were a nice surprise. Also had a sparrow fall-out of sorts with 14 Spotted Towhees, ten White-crowned Sparrows, 4 Harris's Sparrows and a few Chipping and Clay-coloreds around as well.
Henry Armknecht was in town yesterday, so he and I met and birded some after work. We had singing N. Parulas(2), a Black-and-white, and a nice flock(15) of Yellow-rumped Warblers. We saw the FOS Green Heron for us, 3 Solitary Sandpipers, four Snow Geese at the lake and he was able to see the lingering Neotropic Cormorant I'd found a few days ago. Great to spend some time with him!
