Hello All . . . The Mojave Narrows is already one of the prime birding locations in San Bernardino County. A group of us, The Friends of Mojave Narrow Park, is happy to announce the creation of a CA native garden at the park. The project also features bird feeding stations at its center. There are only a few shrubs and trees on the one acre site at this time, but the feeders have been up and running for about a week. We are very pleased that many species of birds have found the feeders already and are visiting regularly. This week it hosted large numbers of Black-headed Grosbeaks (up to 27 a few days ago), Lazuli Buntings, and a healthy variety of other park residents. A water feature is not in at present, but we hope to have one up in a few weeks. It's not a Morongo Valley yet, but give it a couple of years for shrubbery to grow, and it should become a must stop in the future. The garden is located between the Memorial Grove (trees near the silos) and the old maintenance office to the south. I have included a modest checklist after spending a few hours at the site. You can find us on Facebook "Friends of Mojave Narrows Park". See you there!
