On April 18, I found a young Snow Goose at Pulpit Brook Marsh in Amherst, which is adjacent to Horace Greeley’s birthplace on Horace Greeley Road in Amherst. This is just before the Bedford town line, where Horace Greeley Road becomes North Amherst Road. The goose was traveling with four Canada Geese.

At a distance they appeared to be 4 similar sized Canadian Geese, then as I was mid-way over the bridge the 4 geese crossed above me. 3 were Canadian geese, and 1 was a white goose with black tipped wings on the underside. We often see snow geese each year when we visit California wildlife refuges in February and March. My first impression was of a Snow Goose, but I am puzzled as to its traveling partners, and how late in the season a snow goose would still be coming through NH.Any thoughts?
