I did a very quick walk along the Kaw early this morning. It was cloudy, and shortly after sunrise it was less busy than yesterday. Some species were just getting active when I was leaving the park.
A Pileated WP & two Fish Crows were calling at the south end the park. I only listed 4 Yellow-rumps. Heard little song- saw likely warblers in the middle and higher stories of the woods but the lighting was too poot to identify them and I did not hear notes. Warbling Vireos (12) were singing and heard 2 Red-eyed Vireos.. And the Baltimore Orioles (7) started to sing the last 10 minutes of my walk. I heard only 2 Swainsons Thrushes.
There were swarming swallows flying under the north end of the Mass bridge - could be the Cliff Swallow colony returning. I did not have time to walk to the bridge to ID them. Only heard a few Northern-rough-wings elsewhere.
FOS Burcham birds
Great-crested Flycatcher (3 singing)
Spotted Sandpiper (1-did not hear any notes)
