Subject: Burcham: Monday
Hearing my first singing White-throated Sparrow outside my home this morning and there being no cool winds or clouds, I was optimistic about birding. So I did a quick bird walk at Burcham earl this morning. I finished at &:50 AM. It was a beautiful morning along the Kaw.

I di not find much however - on entering the park, I saw one of the resident Barred Owls for the first time this season - a welcome sight and pretty close, I have not seen them or heard them call yet.

I heard only new migrant - a single, Red-eyed Vireo singing its monotonous notes. Warbling Vireos (6 calling) are increasing. I saw only two Yellow-rumps and little movement in the middle and upper stories that might be warblers.

Interestingly, the large numbers (thousands) of swallows I had reported for over a week have moved on - I did not see a single swallow over the river today! Also, the thousands of female Red-winged Blackbirds cackling along the wood-edge have also exited northward.

According to the Migration Dashboard over 2 million birds came into the county last night - a huge spike - so maybe those who did not flyover may be singing tomorrow
