Spent today birding my patch in downtown Dover and ended up with 7 new first of year birds as it seems we had a big migrant push last night. Unfortunately for me I had work, so I birded in the morning on foot and in the afternoon via kayak.
Total: 53 species 2 Canada Goose 9 Wood Duck 7 Mallard 2 Rock Pigeon 3 Mourning Dove 14 Chimney Swifts - FOY and quite early! 1 Solitary Sandpiper - FOY. Beat my earliest in NH by 2 weeks, and tied Steve Mirick's 1996 record for the earliest Strafford county record (at least for ebird) 2 American Herring Gull 1 Great Black Backed Gull 1 Green Heron - FOY 1 Great Blue Heron 1 *BLACK VULTURE* - Only my second record for BLVU for this patch, the first being only 2 weeks ago! 1 Broad-winged Hawk 1 Barred Owl 1 Belted King Fisher 2 Red-bellied Woodpecker 8 Downy Woodpecker 2 Hairy Woodpecker 2 Northern Flicker 1 Merlin 2 Eastern Phoebe 1 Eastern Kingbird - FOY 5 Blue Jay 6 American Crow 1 Common Raven 13 Black-capped Chickadee - One individual with aberrant plumage 8 Tufted Titmouse 1 Northern Rough-winged Swallow 2 Ruby-crowned Kinglet 3 White-breasted Nuthatch 2 Carolina Wren 5 European Starling 1 Gray Catbird - FOY 2 Eastern Bluebird 15 American Robin 3 House Sparrow 5 House Finch 3 American Goldfinch 6 Chipping Sparrow 1 Dark-eyed Junco 3 White-throated Sparrow 5 Song Sparrow 1 Eastern Towhee - Uncommon here, only my personal second record 5 Red-winged Blackbird 1 Brown-headed Cowbird 5 Rusty Blackbird - FOY, always a treat to get these birds here 27 Common Grackle 1 Black-and-white Warbler - FOY 6 Palm Warbler 2 Pine Warbler 32 Yellow-rumped Warbler 3 Northern Cardinal
