Aren't Woodcock nocturnal? I always thought Woodcock come out at 'dusk' I may be wrong. We had one 'peenting' in our yard along the wood line a few weeks ago. Interesting bird!

Found a small gathering of Woodcock tonight in Sanford Maine. Unfortunately it was dark so I couldn't get photos just a recording of all the meeps. My question is does anyone know if they tend to stay in an area for awhile or are they more nomadic. I would love to return to the area during the day to get photos but don't know if they would or could be still hanging around. TIA
