Thank you to all the COA and CBA members that have been following and acting to get HB6916 and now SB9 passed in Hartford this Session. SB9 is a bigger Bill that combined HB6916 and others.
The pesticide industry is swaying our State Legislators to change the language in SB9. The current language in SB9 shows meaningful steps to protect pollinators and birds, our waters, our environment and healthier communities and major compromises have already been made to get SB9 passed, such as removal of all agricultural uses, neonic treated seeds and nursery applications that were in the original HB6919.
These powerful pesticide lobbyists are now pushing to remove ornamental landscaping/gardens, golf course shrubs and trees, office complexes, residences, etc. from SB9 and pushing to add a provision that allows exceptions to the 15 year ban on pesticides on K-8 school grounds for the systemic insecticide chloraniliprole. This 15 year has been one of the strongest in the Nation protecting our children from pesticides.
PLEASE REACH OUT TO YOUR LEGISLATORS ASAP AND SHARE YOUR STRONG OPPOSITION TO ANY CHANGES IN THE CURRENT LANGUAGE IN SB9. You can find your Legislators here at: https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/menu/cgafindleg.asp
For more info on SB9 and protecting our birds and insects, our children and our precious environment, please go to the CT Pesticide Reform website (CTPesticideReform.org). Please also use your socials to get this message and the work of CPR out to your networks.
Gratefully, Jim Dugan Current CT Butterfly Association board member and past CT Ornithological Association board member
