Subject: Enjoying the return of Western Kingbirds
Hi All,
I've been enjoying the return of Western Kingbirds to my neighborhood in northeast Hays. A male has been perching above the usual nesting site (on a metal bracket attached to a utility pole). This despite last year's nest being destroyed when workers replaced the utility pole (but the fledging kingbirds were thankfully just old enough to escape to nearby trees).
Anyway, I hope they start chasing off the noisy grackles (which have the disagreeable habit of pestering robins and other birds that I enjoy).
