It was cloudy with northerly breeze blowing early this morning along the Kaw. I did not find any new spring migrants. Baltimore Oriole (11) and Warbling Vireo (9) were numerous. I have yet to hear scolding calls of these species so I expect the females have not arrived and territorial battles have not begun.

Heard Swainson's Thrushes (6) call notes and song along the river trail. Saw 3 pairs of Blue-winged Teal on the river, and 2 Wood Ducks flew over. I saw the Pileated Woodpecker. Female Blackbirds are flocked up again on the river's wood edge. Cliff Swallows are at the Mass Street Bridge, but not yet building nests. Saw just a few Northern Rough-winged Swallows upriver, and a few Yellow-rumped Warblers. Birding was slow.
