I visited my favorite Nightjar listening spot along McIntire Creek (east side of Tuttle Reservoir) this morning. I arrived about 5:15 and stayed (mostly just sitting) for several hours.  I was rewarded with 5 loudly calling Chuck Will's Widows and 2 much softer calling Common Poorwills.  I have infrequently in the past gotten all 4 species at this location.  It requires Common Nighthawk arriving before the departure of Eastern Whip-poor-will.  Didn't happen today.
I also heard a single Barred Owl, and just before sunrise, several Wild Turkeys and a few Greater Prairie Chickens on a distant hill.  After it got light I watched a female Eastern Bluebird wrestle furiously to subdue a very large green caterpillar which was about one-third her body length.  It also turned into a very good sparrow morning.
