Observation start time: 09:00:00 Observation end time: 15:00:00 Total observation time: 6 hours
Official Counter: Rob Woodward
Observers:
Visitors: A total of 8 with another 8 coming up the hill as I was going down.
Weather: Clear skies with some high cirrus diminishing in the afternoon; good visibility; light SE wind turning moderate and mostly S after 11:00; 45 - 62 F.
Raptor Observations: A few counts were conducted last month to search for Red-shouldered Hawks without much luck, so today is the start of Broad-winged Hawk counts. A good steady trickle in the morning, all moving NE, diminishing in the afternoon. Peak hour was 10:00. A few falcons, 2 Ospreys and some Sharp-shins also present. Some other BWHA were present but not moving northerly, plus a few odd Eagles and vultures around as expected.
Non-raptor Observations: First of year towhee and Yellow-rumped Warbler. A Barred Owl that I hear often from the bottom of the hill called a few times.
Predictions: The forecast says the rain will clear out before the count starts with SW winds so it should be a good count. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Rob Woodward (<toucanrob...>)
