I visited Hellyer County Park in San Jose this morning. The weather started out cool and overcast. Birds started to become active around 9:15am. By 11am the skies were mostly clear. Coyote Creek still has water but doesn’t appear to be flowing quickly. Cottonwood Lake was quite full.
Spring highlights included:
- Singing Song Sparrow, Spotted Towhee
- Pair of Nuttall’s Woodpeckers near the lake
- Recent arrivals of Brown-headed Cowbird and Western Flycatcher
- Yellow-rumped Warbler and Spotted Sandpiper in breeding plumage
- Juvenile Dark-eyed Junco and Western Bluebird
- Black-crowned Night Heron and Great Egret in the creek
