The Migration Dashboard says nearly a million birds flew into Douglas County last night. However, I saw few migrants on the Kaw riverwalk early this morning. Perhaps, those who stopped were held down by the north wind that blew along the Kaw.
Large numbers of Northern Rough-winged Swallows were vocalizing as they slowly moved northward. Likely some Tree Swallows were fellow travelers. Also, the numbers of Warbling Vireos increased (5). Observed several pairs of Blue-Winged Teal (6) on the river, heard one Fish crow, heard the south end of the park resident, Red-shouldered calling for the first time this year, and saw an adult Bald Eagle perched near the south parking lot and unphased by my presence close-by below.. Still lots of northward moving Red-winged Blackbird females on the wood edge.
