It was a beautiful early morning along the Kaw, with a mild south wind. Seemed more active today than on Sunday & Monday.. According to the Migration Dashboard 96,000 birds crossed in Duglas County last night compared to a mere hundred the night before.

Heard my first Brown Thrasher in the park. Also, saw 3 Yellow-rumped Warblers and my first bright plumage male - they did not sing. Heard 3 Warbling Vireos. Heard the Pileated Woodpecker calling and observed an adult Bald Eagle near the south parking lot. Heard and saw a small flock of Tree Swallows resting on trees along the Kaw's bank and others over the river. Might have been a few Northern Rough-winged swallows over the river too but could not see them well enough to identify and they were not vocalizing,

Saw 11 Turkey Vultures at their roosting spot near the south bridge, and The Common Grackle colony was back and cackling near the power station at the south end the park. Saw 6 Rock Pigeons under the Mass Street Bridger, where they used to be numerous and recently hard to found.. The Mass Street Bridge Cliff Swallow Colony is not back yet. Heard a Mallard pair quacking and saw a Blue-winged Teal pair. Flocks of female Red-winged Blackbirds were numerous in the woods along the river - likely headed north. Finally, heard a Ruby-crowned kinglet in the bush near the north stream of the riverwalk.
