The last of the Spring bird walks at Ft. Harrison State Park produced just 52 species of birds. It was a nice morning but no obvious migrants were observed. The full list is below. Brandon R spotted nests of Cedar Waxwing and Acadian Flycatcher and we had a male Eastern Bluebird feeding one young.
Many thanks to everyone who joined me for a walk this spring. I expect to lead Fall bird walks at Ft. Harrison SP in September and October on Sunday mornings.

This evening we had a loose group of purple martins and nighthawks flyover heading generally northwest. Seemed to be feeding and were in area for half an hour or more. Would estimate at least 100 nighthawks and perhaps half as many martins. Doug Johnstone, Morgan Co.

The Sunday morning bird walk at Ft. Harrison State Park produced 62 species on May 24th. Birding was slow with reduced vocalization from breeding species and a dearth of migrants. A Willow Flycatcher may get the honor for top highlight since it sang for us and perched in the open long enough for all to see. The complete list is below.
There is one more migration bird walk at Ft. Harrison. Meet at 8am on May 31st in the NE corner of Delaware Lake parking lot.

Some include Indigo buntings, orchard and Baltimore orioles, scarlet tanagers and one sighting of summer tanager, r. b. grosbeaks, crested flycatchers, E. king bird, E. pewee, E. phoebe, one Empidonax?, red-headed woodpecker, grasshopper sparrow, y. b. chat, American redstart, common yellowthroat, prothonotary warbler, blue-winged warbler, northern parula, Kentucky warbler, yellow warbler, prairie warbler, and worm eating warbler. Vireos include red-eyed, white-eyed, warbling, and yellow-throated. Warblers passing through have included bay-breasted, black throated green, Tennessee, Nashville, chestnut sided, magnolia, black and white, blackburnian, and yellow-rumped. The Amelanchier has an abundance of berries maturing and has is attracting Swainson's thrush, scarlet tanagers, both oriole species, kingbirds, and cedar waxwings. Doug Johnstone, Morgan Co.

An enviable list, Tom and Ann! I am only at 26 species so far. Been quite a
slow warbler spring here, but I got Northern waterthrush, common
yellowthroat, and magnolia warbler this morning. Hopefully, next week
brings more.

The Sunday morning bird walk at Ft. Harrison State Park, Indianapolis, was quite productive. Chief highlight among the 21 species of warblers was a close, almost eye-level, out in the open view of a male Black-throated Blue Warbler. Thankfully, it and most other warbler species were signing so we could ID them, even though we did not see many of them. The full list of species is below.
There will be a free bird walk each Sunday in May at Ft Harrison. Meet at 8am in the NE corner of Delaware Lake parking lot.
